We are rarely participants and prefer to observe, analyze, and evaluate before making comment. Theses traits of character are often the source of confusion and conflict within the cognitive process of individuals unfamiliar with persons of southern disposition. Three common misunderstandings are caused when perception becomes reality for individuals; although born and raised somewhere else, but got here as quickly as they could, to pontificate exactly what we who were here first should do. Actuality versus Reality 1. Kindness is perceived as weakness. 2. Patience is perceived as blindness. 3. Reflection is perceived as slowness of mind. We are not weak, blind, nor slow of mind. We see the total big picture in high definition. Our community fails to thrive after fifty years of economic developments proposed, manipulated and dominated by individuals with distorted perception. Our community is in a constant state of starvation and malnutrition due largely to gluttonous consumption of resources profiting the smallest amount of persons also known as elitist, fat cats, and transplants. Transplants are different from Southerners with identifiable false perception character traits. These character traits are arrogance, ignorance, and entitlement. An inability to comprehend the language whether spoken, written or non verbal has lead to many false assumptions and social blunders which repeatedly separate the mores of southern tradition from the assumption of “transplants” for lack of better definition. True southerners understand the mores and social skills of their raising. You will be hard pressed to find a true southerner who does not understand that disrespect of grandmothers is unacceptable behavior i.e. talking back, rolling eyes, laughing ignoring, and working on your laptop computer while grandmother is speaking to you. Why am I saying all of this? To inform you who were not in attendance at the County Commission meetings on the coal plant issue who those “whackos” were. (Whacko source: Perry Newspaper Inc. Letter to the editor from Taylor County Democratic Party.) Those so called whackos were mostly grandmothers of this community and the county commissioners disrespected our grandmothers to promote a “done deal” with TEC. I can understand JEA and Reedy Creek not understanding what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior. But there is no excuse, justification or rationalization for this behavior from elected officials representing Taylor County. Respect for the people whom it is their job to represent is entry level skills in community service. How well does the present board of county commissioners represent you and your values? This is where we disagree. The community has to take some blame for the poor track records. Our surrounding school systems start children playing tackle football at 8 years old, sometimes even 6. Sounds young I know, but that's only because it's not familiar to us. We start our children at 5 playing soccer and Tball, no wonder they have developed good skills by the time they reach high school. Football definitely takes a backseat in Taylor County, and when you get kids at TCHS that have only been playing football for 2 years, don't expect them to keep up with the kids from Madison who have been playing for 8.It's not possible. There is little support from the community and no support from the Booster Club. This is the 4th year for Coach Harris, so this should be a better year. This year's seniors were the kids he got as 9th graders, so he's had time to train them as he should. As far as the other coaches, there are several new ones and they seem to be right on track. Go to any practice and you'll see that. As far as the old ones go, I agree that some of them could be replaced...but with who? I went to the Spring Jamboree and overheard something. One player would yell "Who decides?" The others would answer with "We decide." I asked what this was about and was told that one of the new coaches gave a pep talk about winning and the comments were made...from the players...that no one thinks they can win. The players said that people in Perry laugh at them and don't believe in them. That's sad folks. The new coach started the Who decides chant and they got all excited...a lot of winning is mindset, I realize training and talent play the biggest role, but if you can't get your mind right then you can't play. I know for a fact that Price Harris dedicates his life to this team. He, along with some other new coaches, actually transports the kids to and from practice, becuase if they didn't those kids couldn't go. They don't get paid for this, that gas money is coming our of their pocket, and that's expensive. They also mentor these kids away from school and help them with pretty much everything in their life. I read in the newspaper that they did a credit recovery program so the low performers could play and saw pictures where they pray as a team. I live close to the school and can tell you Price's truck is there at 8 in the morning and still at 9 at night, Monday - Thursday. Do any of you keep hours like that? Let's get behind this team this year, it's a turning around year, and support them. I think they'll have a winning season, they are finally ready. If they don't then let's gripe, but let's support them this year. Come to the games in your orange and blue and booster their self-confidence...that goes a lot further with teenage boys them you might think. Reply to this

Not really since Elmer Coker was coach have we been a perennial contender year in and year out. I am simply being realistic. Wait and see what the procrastinators say when the High School predictions come out in a few weeks in the Tallahassee Democrat & Gainesville Sun. We have what 13 young men on the JV squad ? Remember years ago when the middle school was a powerhouse in their own right ? You can not tell me we do not grow the talent. For some reason the kids lose heart when the the into the JV program. I believe Kerry Puhl and Reggie Wentworth were the middle school coaches. Jeff Johnson may have been also. The were putting up big numbers every week and beating teams decisively. Then they come along into the high school program and they have those glorious 2-8 , 3-7, or 4-6 seasons. I pose a question, maybe Price is not the man for the job. If these middle school coaches can motivate the boys to win, maybe, just maybe we should have them as head coach.... Reply to this

WOW!!!! First... There is no way in hell the football team is going to win more than three games. I'm sorry, I hope to God they go 10-0 and undefeated in the playoffs and win the state title. But lets be real. Thats not going to happen. And honestly to any of the players that are reading this or any coaches, I do not put any of the blame in yals hands. I put it in the hands of the community. Madison and other surrounding counties do start their kids off early playing tackle but that has nothing to do this it. Madison starts their players off learning the plays at 6 years old. Go watch them they run the same 6 plays. Different variations but the same 6 plays. The reason they win is because they run the plays to perfection. That is what we need in Taylor. No, the little league tackle and flag teams run crazy plays that mean nothing later, or even the middle school running god knows what. We should all be on the same page and running the same plays from little league football and up. That is what breeds champions in High School.
Let me just say I believe there needs to be a coaching change at TCHS. Price is a great man but not a great coach. But I in no way blame the past 3 years on Price or the players. I blame it on the community. The support in this town is sad.
By the way before anyone says anything about what I might know. My blood, sweat, and tears in our on the field at Dorsett Stadium and I know everyone involved personally. So don't think I don't know anything.

He left the schedule in a mess, and the football players not knowing anything that was going on in the program... I do believe that Coach Harris does one day want to coach at Madison, WHAT COACH WOULDN'T... just like in the college game or the pro game, coaches go where they can get a ring and Madison seems to be that place...
Like I said in previous post until Perry's community starts supporting some more to the program and showing our kids some support then come every November for a long time you will have empty bleachers in Taylor County because these kids can't take pride in anything and can't believe in anything... A coach can only motivate so much... the rest falls on the people that are in the stands...
I do remember that 2 years ago against Madison County, Taylor was holding its own in the first half... but did you see the bleachers... Madison out numbered the Taylor crowd by over 2-1... thats sad we have Madison come to town and the football team actaully show up and not be scared of them and we can't even have more fans than the away team...

Yeah, I know what the critics will say, we went to the playoffs year before last but get real, beat one team in the district and you can do that. In no way am I bemoaning the young men...we have had some good kids come through the system. The coaching staff before Harris was a debacle. At one away game, if you watched the coaches at halftime, they were laying on the grass gasping for air as much as the players. Everyone knows that Coach Harris was hoping to use the local job in hopes of stepping up to his hometown (Madison)as head coach evuantally. Only problem is they want a winning coach with a winning program.
That is what I posted. Same thing I said tonight.

My understanding is Mike Thompson passed him for for a first year science teacher hire. So, explain to me what pray tell has a science teacher got over someone with proven coaching experience and a winning record to boot? We bring in a coach that does not have a proven record when right here in Taylor County sat Kerry Puhl, Reggie Wentworth, Jeff Johnson among others who had a proven winning record...Believe in what you want...Seeing is believing and trust me I will have to see to believe. I honestly hope come end of November I am proven wrong and I can admit that..But face it, Not going to happen. We settle for second place because we have a perennial power( Madison County) within our district. Fort White went 4-0 in UF's 7 on 7 camp . We did what , canceled our camp ? not even finishing it. Since "some" people obviously don't know much about JV football...Let me educate you. Oh and the years before that I think it would have been "Good Job A.D. Wentworth"!!(you cant call what Reggie does coaching) Maybe "Thief Wentworth" would be a more appropriate title. Coach Harris tries to do things by the book. Not the "What Taylor County Wants Book" The "FHSAA Book". Wentworth should take notes.
About everyone being treated differently..."people" don't know about the time Coach Harris would not let his own family member re-join the team after quitting. Ask him if he was treated differently. If anything he got the worst of it.
About Coaches: The reason you cant get past college players to coach here is because its Perry. What is there to offer? Cant hire people who don't apply. The 3-4 who call themselves boosters, were pushing for someone else before Harris and that guy wouldn't come to Perry either. Something to think about. Middle School Coaches are simply not qualified to Coach High School...(remember Coach Mauk's run as a Varsity Coach?) What was the middle school's record last year? Worse than Varsity. Talent huh? Powerhouse? How can those words be used in the same sentence with Taylor County?
The people of Taylor County need to encourage what is going on now...Not bring these kids down. People say the kids don't get on here. But the parents do, then they tell the kids about it. Some of them even post comments. What does that do for the player/coach relationships? Tear them apart and undo everything the Coaches have instilled in them. Then what kind of respect does the player have for the coaches? Kind of like a crack head telling his own kids "cops are bad" No there not... they are just trying to keep everyone safe and instill good qualities in the Community. Just like Coach Harris. Step back and take a look at what Coach Harris and his other Coaches have done w/ these players. Watch the way Harris, Glover, and Gray interact w/ these players and watch how much they are loved. Something they may not get anywhere else.

I'll jump in. First the hospital is a not-for-profit corporation and not a county hospital. Which means they have their own board of directors and can run the hospital however they see fit. We, the tax payers, have no say or control over any aspect of that hospital, yet our names are on bills and who knows what else. There is absolutely no way I would sit idly by and allow the county to tax me to support that hospital. If the hospital is too big for this county, then it should down-size or maybe they should put someone at the helm that knows how to turn a situation like that around. The county has no business being in the hospital business. Reply to this

Thanks. The hospital never owned that helicopter. They had a contract with the corporation that owned it. I am not sure exactly what the terms of that was, but it made the hospital money. There were times when payroll was being met just because of that aircraft. I am not sure, but I don't think there will be a renewal and I can almost bet it is the CEO's fault. People cursed that helicopter, but if they knew really what was going on and what the actual problem was, that wouldn't have been happening. Reply to this

The hospital is a vital need for our community. However there really needs to be some changes made within the management. The hospital was recently overstaffed with them calling off nurses. Now it is my understanding that they do not have enough nurses. This is what I have been told. If I am correct are they not using the same committee to hire a CEO replacement for the one they fired. Maybe the Hospital should consider some kind of litigation against this compant for the incompetant CEO we just got rid of.
I also understand that the Stadium is owned by the School Board...Not the County or City ? Can anyone enlighten us on this subject ?? Reply to this

Just sounding off about.......The problems that we have in Taylor County are no different than anywhere else in America. Some problems may be harder to solve than others but our problems are just not localized. The problem of education. Now this problem has been made larger for us due to the financial woes we are faced with. The cuts made in our system were not seemed by many to be fair or well thought out. Favoritism seems to have played out during this process so that makes the problem worse, especially to those adversely affected by the recent changes. And we will be getting a new leader after the election and will he/she make changes or correct the misdeeds that has recently taken place. I'll have to believe that the new person will put the education process first and foremost and favoritism and faulty personal preferences left at the door. At this moment I think it is time to add this point to consider. Money. Every year that I have been alive the politicians and teachers have sold us on the idea that the more money we put into education the better off we will be. I can say without any hesitation that this has not happened. Yes you can throw at me test scores and stats to try to make your case for the better. The proof is in the pudding so to speak. When dealing with the recent grads from say since the late 1990's when they have applied for a job or waited on you in a business, do many of them seem lost with math or reading? Is this a result of too little money or bigger problems that are killing our educational process. Are our teachers whom have come from the same education process educating with the same faulty concepts that have gotten us to this point? Do children entering the system today have more environmental issues making them at risk to performing well in the education process? Are their problems impacted by a society where one or more parents have done drugs or harm their bodies in such a way that it impacts their children which in turns inhibits the child learning process. To sum up at this point, there are many issues as to why our school system is failing. Poor management of the system, incorrect teaching methods ("no child left behind" sounds great but just go back to teaching reading, writing and arithmetic), accepting the fact all kids are not the same and give all children a chance to grow in their own abilities which may mean that everyone will not be grouped together but still teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. If we do not start teaching our children in a way that produces the scientist, doctors, physicist, etc. that we need to keep our species alive and well then we must face the fact that the lifestyles that we know will disappear and the needs of mankind will be met by other countries and not by the people of Taylor County or the United States of America...but do enough people REALLY care about this or do most of us just give lip service and not WORK on it, which is another topic..Workers in the U.S.. STATE CONSTITUTION, Community colleges push for local-option tax Voters will get to choose whether to pay additional taxes to help fund community colleges. Posted on Tue, Sep. 23, 2008 BY ERIKA BERAS AND OSCAR CORRAL, ocorral@MiamiHerald.com
The state's community colleges are championing a proposed amendment to the state constitution this November that would allow counties to ask voters if they want to pay extra sales taxes to support them.
Constitutional Amendment 8, known as the ''Local Option Community College Funding,'' comes at a time when the state Legislature is slashing funding for higher education, and enrollment at local colleges is spiking as adults seek new skills to adapt to an elusive job market.
Miami Dade College President Eduardo Padrón visited The Miami Herald's editorial board Monday to promote the amendment, which he said was critical to maintain the quality of colleges for their communities. He spoke of the local and state support community colleges have traditionally received and the training they provide for essential jobs in the community -- firefighters, emergency medical technicians and nurses.
''In putting this amendment together, we'll avoid supplanting in the future,'' Padrón said.
Amendment 8 would place language in the Florida Constitution that would allow counties to present a local option referendum that offers voters the choice to support their community college. He said 29 states, including the biggest in the country, have funding structures where local communities help finance them. The added income helps stabilize funding for colleges.
''Different communities throughout Florida have different needs,'' he said, adding that there is ''nothing more democratic'' than in allowing local communities to decide what their tax money should be spent on.
Padrón said education is a top priority in the minds of voters.
''I am very convinced if this passes, the voters will respond overwhelmingly in support of this,'' he said. ``In downtimes our enrollment goes up. But that's when the state has the least money.'' Reply to this

I guess my thought is (1) that we have paid for the hospital with an option sales tax, (2) visitors and others pay a "bed-tax" when staying at motels or other lodging, (3) locally we (taxpayers) are bailing out the hospital again, (4) TCDA keeps pushing for tax abatements should they ever luck out and actually attract a business, and (5) we are facing the mother of all bailouts with the current economic dilemma. How can the working folks of this county, region and state keep funding everything.
Given the budget shortfalls facing everyone in state and local governments, this appears to be some type of scheme for the CC's to get additional funding. I wonder if the potentates at NFCC in Madison have bought into this? This sounds like a scheme a former NFCC President would have come up with. Reply to this

The baby bloomers never said NO, so Todays children are raising their children to not hear NO either. These principals are being taught in our schools too, by those same children of the baby bloomers , it is sad, when we have one math teacher who can teach trig, and calculus. He is retired and is paid 100.00 per hour for 3 classes as day ( what happens when he dies we stop teaching those subjects ??). Our children see the superintendent, teachers, principals(or their husbands and wives) drunk, or some having affairs openly, even gambling openly on school property with other teachers too, Then we ask why the kids of today do what they do? They are taught at home , at school, and by their friends teachers and friends parents, that it is ok to get drunk, smoke dope, snort cocaine ( at sporting events high school and college games ). These same teachers take them on a 4 days drunk fest on a ship, and then come back and wonder why they will not behave, ( they have too much on the teachers they see them having sex with 17 & 18 year old boys and girls) the kids hold the marker over the teachers head . Part of SB 6 should have passed , the part where the teachers have to work and show the results of their work as a performance , actually teach the children the 3 RRR instead of the 3 ways to con your way through school. This county has less than 5% gong to college and less than 3% of that 5% graduating from college . We are not educating we are training them how to fail. OK here is a quiz: Parents ask yourself has my child been arrested for DUI? If YES , did I drink in front of them when they were young if Yes then I am to blame I trained them and allowed them to.
Parents: Did your daughter get pregnant between 15 to 18 when she was in school if yes , were the parents divorced did the mother allow her to run the roads at night , with her friends and not know where she was? 90% of the children are in the custody of the mother, MOM you trained her, chances are you were pregnant at age 15-19 years ( before you were married too) . Your baby Boomer parents let you run the roads too..
Same thing with cigarettes, Pot, Anything that has been done our children saw their parents do it first,
The greatest generation is Gone, their morels are gone.. they were at war and when they returned they were going to do everything they could so their children would not have to suffer as they did. Is the public or anyone out there aware that the Union and Buckeye are in negotiations for a new contract? Does anyone care? Why is this not big time local news? Why are the news papers not covering this in any way/? Shouldn't they?
Reply to this
I think the public should be aware of just how much our company thinks of it's employee's,which evidently at this point is not very much.Seems that the part of the business that furnishes 72% of the profit should get a little bit of the pie that John Crowe and the rest of his calvary is getting.Maybe if the paper was to inquire with the company and it's union executive board then maybe somebodies eyes could be opened up.

I think it is appalling, ridiculous, immature, whatever you want to label it for people in this community, well more directly the employees of United Welding, for them to almost immediately start spreading false rumors about that car that was found there and the woman that was missing at the time. You people have no shame to spread false rumors about something you know nothing about just to make it look like you know something. You people went as far as to have it end up with two bodies in the car. I am asking the upper management of United Welding to maybe chastise your employees for acting with such disregard for others. It should be embarrassing to your company. My prayers are with her family and hope the ones involved get the maximum.

Is there a grant writer that covers all needs for the city and the county? How can I find out who this person or persons is/are? There may be opportunities for funding for items to improve our drug awareness, new k-9 members, etc.

Jack Brown for the county would know all the county assets as well as Bill Brown for the city.

I am Florida’s native child. My family has lived in Florida since pre statehood. Perry is my home for all my life. As a native, also known as a southerner, I am here to shout, that true southerners are good natured by tradition and culture. We are characterized as being hospitable, congenial, and polite.
Actuality versus Reality

Well said!! I like what you posted. Hopefully more than 5 people can grasp the content and come to an understanding. Because we are southern people and have regard and respect for others - it is mistaken for weakness. Regretably, we have to change to face a clueless enemy. Our politeness and aloofness has resulted in our near demise.
The local newspaper (running dog lackeys) of the local power structure could care less about the common man, all they care about is advertising dollars. The newspaper is a mouth piece for all the wrong issues and concerns.

I am a debater not a hater. I have no enemies. I have community. People and places familiar to me, for lack of better words I call this home. I want prosperity for all the community. I am tired and bored with those who offer “attitude instead of gratitude” to the people of this community. The “big me, little you” mentally is not useful or helpful.
Our community deserves better than the “some bodies making all the decisions for the every bodies”. Democracy requires an informed populace. If we all have the same information, would we all make the same decision? Are the local politicians and current office holders communicating to the public correct and honest information.

With the election so close, does anyone know if Taylor County still has a Democratic Party? I joined and paid dues once but haven't heard a thing from anyone in two years. I read in the paper that Bill Nelson spoke at Joyce's Downtown Cafe. The leadership changed and we gave our email addresses to the new chair. Seems like someone would want to rally support for national, state and local candidates. Any idea what's happened to this group?

Isn't Rudolph Parker the leader of our party local party ? I read an article in our paper a few weeks ago where he was going to be a delegate to the National Convention....
Reply to this
Rudolph is the treasurer or secretary of the State Democratic Party, that's why he is a super delegate. As far as the local party he may be the chair, like Jubalee stated it's been a while since anything has been heard or seen of them. Byrum Whitfield used to be something in the Party, but the last time I really remember anything from them, a man that moved here and lives at the beach had been elected chairman, I believe his name is Earl or Ed Shotten, not sure of the spelling. He lives in Leisure Retreats somewhere. His wife is from here originally but they had been living up north for a good while. But that's been at least 2 years ago. I agree looks like they'd be getting active doesn't it.

Thank you! It's Neil Shotton and I could not remember nor find my notes to get his name. I will call him and see what's up. Martha Yarborough was mentioned in the paper with the Nelson event, so I might check with her.

It would be nice if the students could get away from a C/D/F FCAT school before
athletics. Reading, writing and ciphering before another distraction.
I don't think there is much interest in the athletic department right (other than issues at the end of this post);
Elections, jobs, the economy, Bush visiting the Commies in China, fuel prices, healthcare, and the environment take precedent over catching a ball.
The issue should be the coaches, the poor records and the incredible salaries paid for such a sorry record, disorganization and general incompetence.

Three games ? Now thats hilarious...He has had a chance. In the third year we should have seen a vast improvement. Guess what, we did not...We have talent or so it seems, but the majority of the talent is not playing for one reason or another. What did I read in the paper last week...14 kids on the Jayvee squad ? I go to most every game. EVEN, the away games. Watch the other schools, when their players come off the sidelines the kids are being coached with coaches over them with chalkboards. Not here, if they make a mistake, they go in the coaches doghouse...2-8 is my prediction with neither one being a district game.

TMac,
Maybe you know something about coaching that Harris doesn't...Have you gone to him with your concerns? I'm sure you have the answer on how to have a winning season and it would be nice if you'd use your information in a productive way instead of using this forum to spread negativity, like you did in your prediction of the season. After all, we haven't had a strong team since the 80's so maybe instead of just being the guy who talks about it you can be the guy who does something about it. Go volunteer your time, become a Booster member, help the coaches, support the team (other than attendance), mentor the players... there are so many things you can be doing that I'm sure would be appreciated.
Thank you for attending the games. The players and coaches need the community to come out and cheer them on. Be a Bulldog fan, whether they win or lose.
Reply to this
Do you do all of the above ? Are you a Bulldog Booster ? Super dog ? And I do correct you, we did make a State Championship run in 1997...We have made strong playoff runs in the early 90's...But like I said those were sporadic.

Except Paul doesn't want his teachers coaching at the high school level, (back to that whole 'team player' stuff on the ammended posts),and I most certainly remember 1997, I was at Florida Field when we played, but that was one year and one year only. I can't find the post now and I'm not going to lie to you, I didn't look very hard for it,but I thought you were the one saying we haven't had a strong team since the 80's?
As a matter of fact, I do the majority of those things. I know this team coming up because I am very involved with them already. I am a family member of a player but have been involved with mentoring students for years. However, the reason I am suggesting that YOU do those things is because YOU'RE the one who seems to have the answer to EVERYTHING. From reading you prior posts it seems like you would make a better president, county commissioner, superintendent, supervisor of elections, and now surprise surprise, Athletic Director. Oh wait, never mind, you don't really give helpful suggestions, you just criticize. Way to be a productive citizen, Taylor County couldn't live without you.
Now go ahead, send me a post back telling me how I do nothing, how I don't contribute, and how you are super supportive of all good things. Can't wait to read it so I can have a good yawn.
I don't care what the predictions are. I care what the results are at the end of post season...because this year I do believe we will have a postseason.

WOW!!!!
Good Luck TCHS…

Great post, and I don't mean that with sarcasm. I agree the problem is with the community. Thank you.
I will agree that Price is a great man, the only thing I will disagree is that I also think he is a great coach. I've just seen him do to much with these kids to not think so. However, that's the only thing I disagree with, I will continue to say that I think this is going to be a good year for us. Thank you for your insight.

I wonder, will we even have a JV team this year ? Can he field enough players to produce one ? Anyone with common sense knows that these kids need to be building their skills and canceling the season as we did last year was ridiculous. Here in Taylor County, where in the mid-late 70's, early 80's Elmer Coker would play any one any where...Taylor County is a dying ground for coaches with the exception of Shaw Maddox. He left and moved on elsewhere and is producing winning teams. If a coach comes here with a winning record he goes kaput.... Just exactly what was Coach Harris' record when he came ? Why in the word was he hired ? Like I said before, it is common knowledge he was hoping to use Taylor County as a stepping stone to return to Madison to coach.
Reply to this
T.Mac... Im sorry but there was a JV team last year sir... and from I remember there was more players on JV than there was on varsity... Coach Harris on the other had was hired because NO ONE ELSE WANTED THE JOB... the program was left in termal due to the coach before him...
Good Luck TCHS...
God Bless Perry...

Not really since Elmer Coker left have we had a winning program. I do know we won the state championship in what was it? 1997? Yes,we had some playoff teams in the early 90's but have not had a program that won consistently Like Elmer Coker and the coaches before that.
I do understand that Coach Wentworth wanted the job for the Jayvee at the high school coach at the high school..Is that not correct ? Dixie County is rumored to be strong again as they practiced in a league with neighboring power Lafayette County.

I agree, T. Mac has made many controversial statements on the site. However , I have not seen any that were really atrocious. I believe as a past parent, and a current parent of a team member it is time for Coach Harris to put up or shut up. No doubt he is a wonderful man and maybe he missed his calling. With the records he has produced it may very well be time to move on if the team does not produce on the field. I am quite disturbed however on the comments made about Reggie Wentworth, was he in fact overlooked for the JV coaching position ? Maybe Bulldog Pride would care to elaborate on that point as this forum is not the first time I have heard that statement.
Reply to this
Since "some" people obviously don't know much about JV football...Let me educate you. The reason there aren't more players on JV is because most of the kids coming up from the middle school were playing ineligibly. "Good Job Coach Glass"!! Right TMAC?
Has anyone heard how many football players went to the FCA huddle a few weeks ago?
I suggest a few of you watch the movie "Facing the Giants" Also, get an education and apply to be a Coach since you have all the answers.

I really didn't mean to be overly critical - if we had the dedication from all of the coaching staff that Coach Harris and a couple of others show then I would be more optimistic.
Those parents that have kids or an interest in the school sports should get a movement going to get rid of the dead wood and question some of these personnel hiring and retention issues.

There are certainly some old coaches that are dead weight and negative, I think it would be good to have a fresh batch and I know there are at least two new coaches who seem not only knowledgeable but extremely dedicated. The only problem with replacing them is with the question I asked before, replace them with who?

It,s a crying shame for the county and city to pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into a sports complex hardly anybody uses, and not even have a decent football stadium for the high school team to play in.I retired and moved to perry 5 yrs. ago and the stadium is still not fixed. What the he-- is wrong with the commissioners and councilmen and women when they cant even support a high school stadium? The city closed the city pool to save money!come on now.I know one reason the team has low morale. While were on the subject. Why hasnt there been a proposal to create a 1/2 cent pennie sales tax to support the hospital which could have been on this novembers ballot. Please somebody tell me why!
Reply to this
I'll jump in.

I go back to the 8-10K Helicopter rides...I wonder how much debt has been run up from patients unable to pay for the use of the helicopter? That service should be sold off. Great Post by the way.

Don "Bomb the Coast" Curtis will sell us out for as much as he can get. Just ask Stephen Alford. Ironically Stephen's email was confusntothenemy@aol.com. which gives a little insight to his mindset. I may not know Mr. Bembry but I DO know Mr. Curtis and he will NOT get my vote on Nov.4.

I saw this article today and wanted to know if anyone else has any thoughts on this:
But that's when the state has the least money.''

Student in the Know...Your learning a real life lesson....Life is NOT fair. And it never will be, so let this be a learning for you. After your schooling is finished you will hit the working world and guess what?...Some people move on and up even if they don't deserve to. Its called the buddy system.....you just need a buddy to carry you along. You can accept it or get mad about it but it will never change. So my best advice is to get as much education as you can so if the situation where you work gets so bad you can't take it, at least you'll have enough education to move to another job. The trouble with what your seeing now is just a reflection of how this society doesn't honor hard work as it has in the past.......it shows how people can get something for doing nothing....its becoming a me, me world and the heck with anyone else. Sorry to burst your bubble...Study hard my friend.......

Well, I recall a "buddy" in the court house let a pot dealer serve his time in the county jail and he would ride around town all day in an orange jump suit, eat out lunch sell pot and then go back to jail at dark. Only in trailer county is pot legal for some and not for others, now if it is crack and you are black....you are put under the jail, sounds like Dyal and the school board doesn't it.
Reply to this
nah, that happens everywhere. an crack heads need to be under the jail. i dont know if they should even be considered members of society. i would be interested in reading what perry has to say on the subject, a friend in a criminal justice class told me they did a poll in their class, out of 30 or so students, only 4 didnt smoke marijuana on a regular basis
Reply to this
I have always heard, pot has been a gateway drug, maybe for some, some predicted to use other drugs. Now several states will have legalization on the ballot this fall, college campus groups are promoting it as well. I do not smoke pot, but see little difference than the drinking and driving in our commmunity and the problems both cause. The kids and adults drinking and driving, in my opinion, are likely smoking pot as well. The kids are smoking pot at school on school buses, that is a fact and well documented. I know one thing, just, JUST SAY NO DOES NOT WORK, another Reagan era myth, much like the former president himself.
Reply to this
Well, it worked for me. In the end, staying off of drugs really IS just as simple as just saying no. That doesn't obviate the need for drug prevention and treatment programs, of course, but the Just Say No campaign never claimed it did.
And personally, I'd love to see another Reagan in office again...

Great Question:
The answer is the baby bloomers allowed their children to grow up and not hear NO, disrespect them as parents, get girls pregnant, not marry them, not support them, allowed their children, to do drugs, and drink ( with them ) have inter racial relationships, allow their children to have gay and lesbian relationships and live in their houses .
They were busy feeding their families and rebuilding the country.
The Vietnam era baby boomer's were failures as parents , and their kids failed, and their kids failed or will fail too :Sorry it hurts

The apple does not fall far from the tree in many cases. I remember many many years ago some kids dug up a grave or two in this county. When our existing "leaders" in the community, and many parents, behave so badly, it is no wonder high-school aged children do this. When the super of schools and school board members are unethical how do you expect kids to have respect for schools. When the school board selectively enforces the discipline matrix we have this environment. Listen, we have had a long history of promoting a lawless community. The local judiciary has created this, thanks peanut gallery judge, literally peanuts. Maybe Dyal should take some of his slush fund for footbal and coaches and install cameras and an alarm! I wonder if this team of vandals had law enforcement protection like the last group.

The idea behind representative democracy is that people represent us; we don't vote on every issue ourselves. If we don't think we're being well-represented, we vote against the people representing us. We're free to do that, regardless of whether Amendment 4 passes.
If it does pass, what happens if a change is needed but there's no impending election?

How many times did we hear that during the coal plant meeting. Heck it was in the newspaper editorial too many times. The truth is our community has no leaders or representatives of the people. Despots and lackey for the presumed most powerful make small men and women in even smaller minds. I'd be curious to know more about the results.
For instance, of those without insurance, how many chose not to have it because of the cost as compared to those to whom it wasn't available at all? And for that latter group--the ones who can't get it at all--what kinds of jobs are they working that don't provide insurance?

Now, if the You Tube video is in relation to the topic you wish to start and it emphasizes the topic, then I will post it. Again, I will be waiting for your topic to be emailed so I can start it for you. Thanks.
