I thought there might be two power plants. However if there is only one why not here? I am sure that there will be a group that will not want it. Can you guess who that will be.

Given the fact that the gas transmission line runs on the north side of the county I question the site on the south side of the county referenced by TCDA charlatan Rick Breer in the paper last week. It is no secret that Southern COmpany looked into establishing a merchant power plant at the TCES location years ago and that Seminole Electric looked at a site many years ago as well. The problem with any such project is the credibilty of Breer and TCDA among many in the community.

They can dig trenches to the new site and lay pipe. No big deal. If Mr. Breers credibility or lack there of is the question, well that is no reason not to have it here. Plus is there property available for sale to these groups? Most if not all lines will run from the south east side of town.

I would not think so....it most likely would need to be a site in close proximity to the natural gas line and the power transmission lines that run through the county using exisiting corridors rather than the aquisition of new right-of-ways. At least that is what I would think.

This is our chance (the people) inspite of the incompetent Rick Breer and the TCDA for us to do something crucial for the community. We must not let the vocal minority pull the rug out from the majority. This possibility can become our cause regardless of the obstacles. We can make this happen, We should be engaged from the very start. We can make jobs and economic progress our priority and fight to the end for success of this great opportunity for us and the children. We must get a plan together to get rid of Breer. He is only dragging us down. Let's make this our number one priority. Ask Breer what plan he has, what plan has been developed, what incentive package has been put in place. Breer can't screw around with this project and let it slip away because he doesn't have the skills to make it happen. We can win this and make Taylor county a better and more economically dynamic community.
Remember we can't depend on the TCDA - we can only depend on ourselves.
We need a committee to guide the TCDA. Their past record of failure speaks for itself. what is to come if input from others is not used.
Pray for us - it can be done!!

I agree. This is something that this community needs. This is also a "greener" type of industry. We can start now with TTI getting grants to instruct our main resource "US" in the operations of this type of plant. We can if we as a community decide to do it, Or we can sit back and let the "Vocal Minority" as they have a want to do, run the show. We can start this game off right by showing up in mass to all the open forums and speaking our minds. They will. Are you as a community willing to step up and be heard, or just sit back and complain that nothing ever comes to Perry?
Dan, Don't most of the power lines on the south east side of the county. Would it not be easier to run a gas main to the new site than re route the power lines? Just a question.

I am not sure, I am just thinking about the transmission line facility in the Green Street/Buckey Nursery Road area behind TCES and the gas transmisson facility out 221 North near Pohill Road. I wonder if this project is related to the rumored re-zoning of an old industrial area in the Boyd area. It is my understanding that the TCDA/Chamber is backing the location of an industrial park in the Boyd area, a site that has had some type of operation (Sawmill) previously.

I didn't think about those. My parents and other friends live off San Pedro and Ellis road the power lines (2 different ones I)run close to their houses. THis is what I was referring to. If the Boyd area is the ticket then it would be close to my home. I think we have a great area for it. If not here then one of the other county sight s should suffice.
Deep-Thought, If you get any notification of the Who, whats, where and whens on any meetings please send it. If I can attend with my shift schedule I will. Thanks and we need to get more people involved.

Great comments to date. I am looking forward to how this project(s) and related developments progress. Maybe we all ought to begin attending the TCDA meetings. I concur that we can not depend on a small group of folks to do what is best for our community, be it TCDA-Breer or any other group. Economic Development is everybody's business!

I agree. Great comments. I will post any and all information that comes my way on this subject. If anyone has dates and or times for any future meetings please post them. I also believe that it is up to all of us to stand up and be counted.

TCDA has met the second Monday of each month at 12 noon at the Capital City Bank, where TCDA currently has an office. The meetings are open to the public and you WILL LEARN A LOT! You can call and ask Rick or the secretary if a regular meeting will happen or if they have changed the date for some reason. They stick to the time schedule, eat lunch at the table to save everyone's time and leave promptly to get back to work at 1. There have been openings on this board and no one stepped up-they recycled previous board members. Please, interested people, you can get involved; there is not an economic development expert on the board-the mayor, the county commission chair, TTI director Olsen, retired Buckeye Charles Demps, Cindy from Taylor County Land Development, Jim Bassett is chair. I can't remember the others or the new members.
Rick told me a while back that their purpose is to bring industry, large employers, not 'retail.' I am frustrated that no one seems to be looking out for downtown re-development or for the empty stores at three shopping centers and down Hwy 19. Does anyone know who tries to bring business, or 'retail' into the community? In a county with most of the land owned by a large private landowner, it is difficult to bring in any large, environmentally responsible industrial company. Why can't TCDA broaden their scope? They are legislatively mandated but may not be legislatively limited.

The TCDA ia a joke with jokesters running the show, What is wrong with "retail". Is the TCDA fighting to keep Walgreens out of the city - Walgreens is retail.
Breer is not capable of luring any business here - his record speaks for itself. Name one job he has brought to the county. What is the plan? What outreach has been developed What incentive package has been developed. What do they do from day to day?
This incompetent leadership (Breer has got to go, What are the stipulations of his contract. Who is his supervisor? What criteria is used for his performance appraisal?
How many contacts are made on a daily basis. Mailouts? Does our TCDA network with other local development authorities.
We are faster and faster fighting a losing battle with breer in charge, We are doomed under his "guidance".
Breer needs to do the right thing and resign and leave the county - at least this would be a start.

Sounds like you are a prime candidate to make improvements. Why not apply for one of the positions Jubilee talks about. You can make a difference.

I don't see what the problem with having a natural gas plant here would be. We already have natural gas lines in our backyard, why not put it to good use. Every time we get some kind of anything that will give our young people a chance to make a good living, all the people who have set their ways and are afraid of new things run it away. We need to get out of the "NOT IN OUR BACKYARD" attitude. Support things that can improve our county.

My chief concern would be if we get a share of the power. I feel that if any kind of Power production is going to be placed here, then the residents need to have at the least a choice of whether or not who to purchase the power from.

I have heard that the new plant will be located where the power lines and the gas main crosses in the bay right off the "Main Line".

Please, people help me get this natural gas plant for our community. I'll lead the effort. All I need is a little assistance and encouragement. The worthless TCDA will do nothing. We need a committee, a focus group, an advertising group and a political action group. I'm willing to lead with help and input. Let kill the already dead TDA and it's do nothing leadership.
We can sure produce clean and well paying jobs for our children. We can assure a future for Perry and the county.
We must let them know "we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore. TCDA and Breer have got to go. They think of nothing and produce nothing.
Please help me get this started. Very fe good thing come along in Perry. What does come along needs to be explored and nutured. The people can do it and we're the people. I'll get thing rolling - I need a little help and some ideas. I'll work hard because I love people and detest these officials and politicans that have been keeping us down. Let's leave our differences aside and concentrate on the natural gas power plant. It will benefit everyone.

Help me form a citizens' energy council ready to do battle with the lazy and incompetent. It eon't be easy because the TCDA is dug in like a blood sucking tick - draing our strength.

I am with you, when you have an organizing meeting, post the time and day. One issue is that the TCDA is the primary contact for all things economic development related for Perry and Taylor County. The Chamber of Commerce historically had a Citizen's Committee that did simular work, but the Chamber has become a hotbed of cronyism and political hackness, no better than TCDA. The Chamber committee was able to operate independently without the strings of using public money. The group has long been dead. A new organization /committee may be the way to go, let's get one organized, a non-partison, non-crony, and non-publically funded organization.
