A few weeks back at the Colt Ford concert I watched the band take the stage and the speaker called out to the crowd “How about that Goodman’s Bar-B-Q?” the crowd roared out a shout back to good Bar-B-Q. Next the speaker called out “Perry’s finest are in the house” as local law enforcement entered the concert hall and the crowd became so quite that you could have heard a mouse peeing on cotton. The shocked look on the band member’s face was a tell all. He did not know quite how to react to this. Enough said?

The "shock" of law enforcement or that Goodman's BBQ is considered good? That is my question. LOL!! Given the fact that law enforcement as a whole spend a lot of money eating not so good BBQ at Goodman's, Goodman's ought to have an appreciation day for law enforcement. LOL!!

Are you kidding the PPD K-9 work there dogs where he Sheriff's Dept K-9 is for show and tell. The SO K-9 is a joke. There never work there dog , then if you no who the the handler is you know why.... But still he draws a check....GO Bummy...

It would not be fair to compare either, they are apples and oranges. Nothing can be found negative in the PD program. Both dogs are brilliantly effective and have paid for themselves several times over.

I have to say that the PD's K-9 teams have been doing a great job. They are put to use a lot and that is what is needed out of them.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to the whole PD and SO.

I wish the Perry PD K-9 team could enforce some type of noise law for Perry. It is really bad when folks cannot enjoy Christmas dinner without some type of noise pollution up and down the streets of Perry! We live in a commmunity that is fast falling to drugs and lack of civility!

I dont know how noise is a police issue, much like littering, its more of a social issue, and until legislation is passed with some teeth in it, I dont see law enforcement wasting their time with loud music calls, other than making traffic stops on vehicles and writing tickets.

Good point. Many of the nuisance issues really boil down to people don't have simple respect for their fellow man. They either don't care, weren't taught it or are just so caught up in their own world that it never crosses their mind. I will also have to agree with some other posts in that there are no comparison between the two departments. The SO K-9 is and always has been a P.R. dog/team used for what it was intended and the PPD K-9 team is a true, working K-9 team and I am very glad to see the Command Staff implement it. Thanks for your hard work.

But again here we go about wasting tax payers money with the Sheriff's K-9. They do not use the dog but for PR and that is not very often, and were still paying the Vet bill and buying the feed. I'm sure we as tax payers have spent more on this dog and the handler than the dog and handler has ever recovered in DOPE. I have a question why doesn't the Sheriff's office have a K-9 like the city ?...Way back in the 80's and 90' they did. And why doesn't Sheriff Bummy look for DOPE as hard as past Sheriff's did. I really think it time for me to re-think my vote next go around and it will be who ever running against Buddy Bummy. The S.O. is becoming a Joke....

Dear Changing my vote and other negative writers: You need to get your facts straight before you start talking about what you know nothing about. Both K9 teams are very hard working and have both recovered their amount of DOPE and even work together on some cases. Both SO and PD K9 teams work verY hard in their training to serve and protect people like you and everyone else that has something negative to say so that you can voice your opinion in such a way. Also if you have such a problem with the way the K9 teams run or the way the sheriff handles business then why dont you go become a K9 handler or the Sheriff of Taylor County? Its not as easy as you think and my guess is that you probably would not be able to do it!

"both recovered their amount of DOPE and even work together on some cases", well why doesn't the most recent crime stats indicate less drug cases than the prior statistical year? I have a fair amount of respect for both K9 units, but it doesn't appear that the resources put forth is translating into additional drug cases and a dent in the problem her in trailer county.

To answer your question because drugs are a problem in Taylor county and it is not something that can be fixed over night, it is a problem that takes time to fix and it should not be put all in the hands of the SO or PD. Parents should teach their children right from wrong about drugs and maybe you would see less of it. Have you thought about that? Why when you do not teach your children right and they do wrong you try to let everyone else handle the situation instead of taking blame for it? And in other words if you do not like living in "trailer" county and the way the "drugs" are here then by all means move!

Spoken like a true member law enforcement, "don't like it get out". Why don't law enforcement and the judiciary do something! If all the cronys were arrested, prosecuted and jailed we would not need all of these Barney Fifes we have around here, they could just give airboat rides! If they could keep one afloat! LOL!

Actually Anonymous I am not a member of law enforcement but I am a citizen of taylor county and I respect the law enforcement who work to protect people like you at night while you sleep or in the day when you call for "problems" that you cannot handle on your own. And when I say if you dont like it get out thats exactly what I mean, there is no reason that you should be in a place that you hate so much or you disagree with the way it is ran, am I wrong? And you call our law enforcement Barney Fifes your really showing your childish side, way to go! Basically either way law enforcement tries to do their job someone is always going to have something negative to say like the people on here, who probably have had a bad run in with the law making them have a negative attitude. So once again I'll say it if you do not like it GET OUT or apply for a job and try to make the "changes" you are talking about! ha lets see that happen!

I agree with you Against Negative People, I was stopped by the FHP they call do-nut the other day, did I get mad no, I was in the wrong, I for one am glad we have our true public servants in this town, go Vern, Bummy and their boys.

Did you mean "that they call BISCUIT?"

Thank you I Agree, at least some people in this town are not negative against our local law enforcement who are here to protect your butts not kiss it! Believe it or not regardless of what people think law enforcement officers dedicate numerous amounts of their time for special details, activities, shift work, schooling etc and are away from their family and work very odd hours. So give em a break people everyone is human and people do make mistakes, and like I have said numerous times before if you dont like it change it don't just complain about it!

Don't leave out all the other things, like coaching at most levels, and the biggest one of all is protecting all of us when you are off the clock, because everyone should no that you and your fellow officers are never off the clock, you are just off our time clock, you protect and serve 24/7. I will say this to you and the others in your line of work THANK YOU< you deserve at least that from us.

The reply to those asking people to leave.
I must agree with those who say this site/town is fluff and crap, but mostly crap and I for one will not look back. This community has no respect for self and others and there is no way to advance obstinate idiots. Maybe there will come a day when all is lost and a new start can began to make Perry Florida, Taylor County a fit place for humans to live, work and play. All faith is gone on this one. In case you have not noticed the brightest are gone or packing to leave and there are some committing suicide as a last resort but getting out all the same. Who is left?
Those staying and saying I’m so proud can only be foolish, drunk, thoughtless, and constitutionally incapable of believing/telling the truth.(on drugs and lots of them) There was a time I believed there was hope for good people to do better. That time is past. Now I know all the good people are gone and all hope is lost. I agree with the person who said “you just can’t fix stupid”. Perry Florida a place in the rear view mirror.

You can run from all the issues that we have here...but...where is this utopia that is out there?...small towns all across our country are now places where meth and crack are the "new norm". And we have the most unemployment this whole country has seen in years, so all cities big and small are hurting for jobs. So if this utopia you wish to find does exist, may you find the peace that you are searching for... if it is not there...then...search your soul...and you'll find that it exist in your heart...no matter where you run...Live, Laugh and Love...hopefully in the place we call home...and Taylor (trailer) County...

Last I heard, Taylor County is still part of the United States of America so people are free to live here under the same constitutional rights as anywhere else in the USA. Get a newspaper or turn on the television and quit living like it was still 50 years ago. This place needs to grow up. I love the locals who say "If you don't like it leave" as if you somehow have the right to even suggest such a thing. Morons.

There are some good law enforcement folks and some bad cronys, same as everywhere. The are a lot of bad apples in the courthouse that call their cronys when there is a warrant and this type of stuff must stop. And in the clerk's office too!
